Why is it difficult to breathe after crying so much over a breakup?

Need to talk it out: You are obviously in great pain, to be crying with such intensity that you are unable to catch your breath. Have you sought a wise and sympathetic ear or formal counseling advice. This would help you to process your intense feeling, which could take some time - not something that cam be rushed. Hope

See below: The overwhelming sadness that accompanies a breakup can feel like a weight upon your chest and a sense of not being able to get a deep breath. This sensation is related to what's termed a "heart ache" in that they often occur together. The heart has receptors for neuropeptides secreted by the brain("chemicals of emotion") and neurons surrounding the heart can secrete neuropeptides themselves.
