Likely an abscess: This may be a peri-tonsillar abscess - certainly needs an evaluation with possible antibiotics. If it is an abscess it needs to be drained. I would make an appointment with an ENT today. If it needs to be drained they can do it in the office. If you go to the ER, you will spend time there only to be referred to someone who can drain it (an ENT)
