Blisters: Herpes viruses cause a series of skin lesions. The rash starts out as small bumps then develop into blisters that are very painful. In fact, the pain can even start before the rash. The blisters then open and turn into sores that crust over. If you do not scratch or pick at them they usually heal up without scarring.
