Lymph Nodes: What you are probably feeling are lymph nodes- which act as filters to detect foreign items and build immune cells in reaction to them-- such as bacteria or viruses. Unfortunately some cancers-- though not common can cause swollen lymph nodes. More likely an infection is causing them to swell, but as more information is not available you should be checked out by your doctor.

I agree with your Da: It is quite common to have palpable lymph nodes in the groins. Unless they are larger than 2 cm and progressively increasing in size over a period of 2-3 months, you can ignore them as benign.
