Could be irritation: When you breathe, the two pleural surfaces that line the lung rub against each other, If you have irritation in that area from a cold,,flu,or bronchitis,the fluid between those two linings may be dried out and it would be the equivalent of sand paper rubbing against each other so when those two linings move against each other when you breathe or cough, that could cause discomfort or pain.
