A member asked:

I have 4 pack years of smoking...just quit smoking. do i still have a good chance of smoking related cancer or did i quit before i did serious damage?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It will reverse: The damage from use of tobacco will gradually reverse and your risk would be normal in about ten years. Do not use tobacco or tobacco products in any form. Refrain from using alcohol. Keep your weight under control, eat a balanced diet and exercise regularly, about 150 minutes/week.
