Pinched nerve: This sounds like a discomfort emanating in the rib cage and could be a pinched intercostal nerve or irritable/inflamed muscle. Certainly you should not smoke nevertheless. See your Physician for evaluation and further advice if symptoms persist or if a cough develops.
