How short is too short when clipping nails?

Clipping nails: Fingernails may be cut so that the entire white part of the nail is removed, you do not want to go further. Toenails should be cut even with the end of the toe straight across to prevent ingrown toenail. Side edges should not be cut but may be rounded with an Emory board or file.
