A member asked:

When taking the tempature for my 16 month old which reading is the best ear, rectum, or forehead?

Temperature: A rectal temperature with the appropriate technique is most accurate but in 16 month old is impractical. The ear is much easier and can be very accurate If done right. It all depends on what equipment you have or want to buy. The costs can vary a lot and the more accurate costs more. Get good with what you have and trust what you do. Ask your doctor to train you on better techniques.

Rectal: Is the most accurate. Unless your child is sick with an immune disorder, rectal is best. A temperature above 38.5 rectally is elevated. All the best.
