Kidney infection: ... also called pyelonephritis, often causes pain in the abdomen, particularly in the flanks.This is where the kidneys are located, and the inflammation around the infection sites frequently causes discomfort. It does not cause a pulled stomach muscle, although the pain with pyelonephritis may feel like that at times. As the antiobitics begin to work, you should notice the pain improving.
