A member asked:

Why might someone be on d5 1/2ns with ceftizoxime?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IV fluids: Those are a type of IV fluid and it is often selected when the patient is not able to eat (say they are going for surgery the next day). The D5 keeps the cellular metabolic cycle running (TCA cycle), without going into ketoacidosis. The 1/2 Normal Saline part is fluid and salt that's supplemental to the body. If you have questions about a patient's treatment -feel free to ask the prescribing doc.
