A member asked:

Why is edta often used to treat lead poisoning?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Binds lead: EDTA binds lead and removes it from the body. This is accomplished by a process called chelation whereby the EDTA forms a number of bonds with a lead or other metal atom, carrying it out of the body as the EDTA is excreted.
