The ancient Greeks: knew about leukemia, which literally means "white blood". Traditional medicine had numerous ineffective treatments, but modern medicine has two treatments which stem from traditional medicine. This includes the use of Arsenic which was known in ancient India and Greece but is dangerous and only works in certain cases.
