A member asked:

When watching a welder, what kind of damage can occur in the eye?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Several: The principal effect of welding on the eye is a sunburn type reaction of the corneal surface due to the ultraviolet light. This is why welders wear a mask with a dense filter. Particles can fly off the welded area and cause damage so it is best not to stand too close without protection. With proper protection as welders know, the eyes can be protected.
