A member asked:

What is the use of sulfonamide in medicine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Sulfa drugs: A sulfonamide is just a chemical term to describe the structure of a compound - essentially there is a sulfonyl group connected to an amine group. In medicine we have a number of drugs that contain these sulfur bonds. Bactrim is be one of them (sulfamethoxazole). Some 'water pills' too such as Hydrochlorothiazide. If you have a sulfa allergy, it's important to tell your doctor to avoid these meds.
