A member asked:

If i hugged a person last night who had lice, and wake up and find nits- could i have gotten it overnight from them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Nits are the egg casings of mature lice. It takes up to 10 days for a young louse to become sexually mature and deposit eggs, and several for eggs of a mature louse to show up if they transfer to you. When deposited, they adhere to the base of the hair.Since most hair grows ~.5in/m you can estimate when they were acquired by the distance they are from the scalp.
