Yes: Many causes of hip pain are easy to diagnosed with a torough physical exam. Anytime you have severe pain and not sure of the cause, visit a doctor. If you had a trauma or think is a sport injury, see an orthopedist or sport medicine physician. If not then seek help with your primary doctor.
