Will your kidneys last longer or shorter if you have diabetes?

Shorter: Even tight control cannot deter wear and tear to kidney, other factors are age, use of nephrotoxic agents ( ibuprophen etc. ) high blood pressure and lack of control. Other factors are ethnicity as research data shows minorities with higher incidence of nephropathy.

Diabetics at hi risk: Unfortunately, about 70% of all kidney disease is secondary to diabetes and hypertension. Most diabetics are hypertensive, therefore diabetics are at high risk for kidney disease. This risk can be reduced by tight glucose control, by drugs which lower blood pressure and/or increase circulation to the kidneys (ace inhibitors or arbs). E.
