This sounds like it could be gastroesophageal reflux.: Normally if you eat or drink any fluid within three hours of bed and lay flat the esophageal junction can relax and fluid can come up and be aspirated into the lungs. The simple treatment for this is avoid alcohol nicotine and caffeine and avoid eating or drinking within three hours of laying down.
