How do i know if i have a bug bite or an infection? the area on my skin is lifted, hard and red, almost like a pimple with no tip.

Hard to say: without being able to see the lesion. It sounds like you may have a "boil" or small abscess. Try placing a warm washcloth over the area for 10 minutes and see if this brings any relief. Boils sometimes abate on their own but also may require antibiotics.
