A member asked:

They had to give my gf steroids for the baby lungs to develop. she's 5 months and they want to take the baby now is that safe or possible?

Possible: 5 months is very early. It is unlikely that her doctor would recommend this unless it was absolutely necessary to save the life of the baby and or the mother. Discuss this with her doctors to learn the basis for this recommendation.

Critical condition : If the OB/GYN suggests "taking the baby now," it is due to a severe and complex medical condition affecting your girlfriend or the baby. A baby can survive premature delivery as early as 22-23 weeks with several months of intensive care and lots of hard work. They would not take a baby this early if it were not absolutely necessary to save a life. Bring your critical questions to the OB.
