What is the difference between a non toxic & toxic mulitnodular goiter?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid function: Hi. With a toxic multinodular goiter (MNG), the patient is hyperthyroid, whereas with a non-toxic MNG, the patient has normal thyroid function, so thyroid function is the difference. Some (statistically a minority) of non-toxic nodules are thyroid cancer, and may need fine needle aspiration biopsy to evaluate based on nodule size and other ultrasound characteristics. Good luck!
