Several: Proton pump inhibitor treatment long term may be associated with osteoporosis, higher risk of low serum magnesium and increased risk of contracting Clostridium difficile infection. The American Gastroenterology Association recommends against high dose PPI treatment in Barrett's esophagus.

Is it an ulcer? Severe burning pain in the esophagus and stomach. Antacids (tums) taken, fallowed by ranitidine 75mg and Prilosec otc.
