Surface studding: during gallbladder surgery if the liver has surface studding of cancer then it might be seen. If there is a single focus of cancer in the middle of the liver then it would not be seen during gall bladder surgery. Most patients who get the gall bladder removed do not have cancer. If their is cancer in the gall bladder then the pathologist will find it in the removed specimen.

Frequently: If a well defined lesion primry to liver such as hepatoma or a unsuspected metastasis be present, in an open GB procedure where porta hepatis is examined and the surface of the liver palpated at the time of surgery a lesion that is present is frequently noted. Biopsy followed by resection along with the GB can help improve survival.
