A member asked:

What causes, what are known as, "growing pains" on a anatomical level?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: There is no evidence that 'growing pains" are related to growth spurts. These pains are felt not to be due to bone, joint or muscle disease but to usual childhood physical activities including running, jumping, climbing, sports activities, etc. They occur as muscle aches which come and go, but often occur at dinnertime and bedtime, during the night. An exam by your doc can tell if no pathology.
