Bowel obstruction: Hi, if ur mom is not in the hospital you need o take her to ER ASAP, she probably has a non-mechanical bowel obstruction.

Post-op ileus: You didn't mention what type of surgery your mom had but she might be suffering from a post-operative ileus in which bowels don't work normally after (abdominal) surgery. She needs to be evaluated by her surgeon immediately. Check out http://www.medpagetoday.com/pdf/MEVH04/pages.cfm?section=02-overview.cfm & http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/178948-overview

She or you: Need to contact the surgeon. Constipation after surgery(though you don't mention the type of surgery) is quite common, particularly if your mother is taking opioid/narcotic pain medications and/or has been slow to mobilize. But her surgeon should be able to guide you and your mother through this.
