I can taste some things, other things cannot taste it at all. to me it makes no sense to be able to taste one and not another . what is wrong?

Taste, or smell?: True taste is limited to 4 sensations: sweet, sour, bitter and salty. Most of what we perceive as taste in eating is really smell. It is possible you have some deficits in your sense of smell, possibly from your diabetes, possibly from other causes. An ENT specialist or neurologist can help you sort them out.
