Unusual to take both: as they have similar action, but when one or the other is usually prescribed, it is often given in twice a day dosing, with smaller dose in the AM and larger at night due to drowsiness side effects. Both meds are used with children with autism and your child may benefit from a low dose of each. Please follow the recommendations of his doctor for dosing and monitoring.

Yes: Both medicines can be taken simultaneously or separately without any major differences. Just make sure the tablets are crushed for proper swallowing and followed by adequate amounts of water. Watch for side effects and interaction, as these can be significant.

Much the same meds: Both of the meds are in the same family and not likely to offer anything additive.
