Not generally given: for that condition. Silver ointments are a bit of a harsh way to suppress bacterial growth. Useful in burns or situations in which the skin is gone to give some protection during initial healing. Not relevant as a preventative of loss of skin.

If infectious: If more a groin dermatitis than a steroid cream would help most likely, if chaffing is due to a fungal infection, than an anti-fungal cream would be needed.
