VSD: I believe what he is saying is that he has a tiny VSD without a right sided shunt so it is safe to follow it closely. It may close on its own. If a shunt to the right side develops he may need it closed. All the best and I hope I am interpreting this correctly.

VSD: Unless VSDs are symptomatic (low weight gain, fatigue,congestive heart failure), it is accepted practice to watch the VSD and follow with ultrasound to see if they close on their own. Keep a close eye on the baby and I am sure your pediatrician will as well.
