Yeast not herpes: Yeast infections in the mouth, called thrush, do not present like herpes. Hopefully your doc can tell the difference. Herpes hurts very badly and there are blisters (vesicles) and sores, , thrush can hurt some but nearly as much and look like red bumps with possibly a white coating on tongue and gums and cheeks. Do a Google image search for both and compare. Thrush gets better fast with treatment

Any risk factors?: For oral yeast/thrush? The things that commonly result in oral yeast are use of corticosteriods, either systemic or by inhalation for athma or other reasons, HIV disease, long term antibiotic use and other immunocompromised states.
