Yes: You can be allergic to any of the proteins in chocolate, including the cocoa bean.

That would be sad: I have not personally heard of, nor read about chocolate allergy. Some might be allergic to added ingredients such as nuts, fruits or milk products. But the chocolate itself is quite non-allergenic.

As much as patients are convinced of their allergy to chocolate, in 25 yr of being an allergist, I have never truly seen it. Regrettably (for patients), it seems to remain on the "usual suspects" list.
