Irritation: This may be irritation but if there are associated redness and swelling,infection may be present which would need antibiotic therapy. Try warm compresses and see your physician as needed.

Trauma?: Do you recall feeling clitoral pain during the IUD insertion with you doctor?If yes,you may have had a rather uncommon experience with the procedure.If no and this developed somewhat after the insertion,I would not necessarily relate the clitoral pain to the IUD as the insertion procedure shouldn't even really go near the clitoris.Consider seeing the doc who did insert and have them examine it.

This is not an IUD: Complication as far as I am aware. One thing does come to mind, and that is possible vaginitis or yeast, or otherwise skin irritation and breakdown caused perhaps by bleeding or sex. Clean the area thoroughly and gently and examine the area. if it appears to be irritated and is the skin is breaking down you need to go back to gyn right away. Is your IUD copper? If so you may be allergic to it.
