Bad things: The brain can not tolerate over 4 minutes without Oxygen. More than that the brain suffers permanent damage and even death. The heart (or portions of its muscle) can tolerate it a little longer but permanent heart damage happens if the blood is not restored to the area in question in less than 3 hours. That why is so important to get to a hospital as soon as possible (Time is myocardium/ muscle)

Ischemia: Tissues which don't get oxygenated blood when they need it malfunction or even die. For the brain this can mean loss of consciousness or stroke. For the heart this can mean angina, heart failure or infarction.
