Basal jt thumb cmc: arthritis is often treated by removing the trapezium. Some surgens add a folded tendon to the remaining space and others add tendon transfers to this to prevent the thumb metacarpal from shifting in the wrong direction. There are many variations on these themes. Splinting and or casting and hand therapy typically follow.
