What viruses live longest on surfaces like door knobs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Virology: There is a whole field of medicine devoted just to the study of viruses - so it starts to get very complex when you look into it. It is true that some infections can persist on surfaces such as door knobs - we call these 'fomites' -contaminated objects. Probably norovirus is the most notorious. It can survive for WEEKS on hard surfaces! Definitely good to maintain good hand hygiene at all times.
