Pregnancy scan: Over-the-counter pregnancy tests have gotten pretty sensitive, and can be used as a cheap and easy screening test for pregnancy. Pregnancy can then be confirmed by a blood test that tests for the presence of the b-hgc hormone. To exclude an ectopic pregnancy, or to confirm a viable (living) pregnancy, a fetal ultrasound can be performed, also called a first trimester or dating ultrasound.
