Quick and painless: The genital exam typically would take a minute or less: visual inspection of the penis and surrounding areas, retracting the foreskin, "milking" the penis for discharge, feeling the groin for abnormal lymph nodes, and feeling the scrotum and testicles to check for lumps, tenderness, etc. Other procedures might be done if any of that is abnormal, e.g. swab specimen from urethra or skin lesions.
