Opioid pain reliever: OxyContin is a long-acting opioid pain reliever with dosing at 8-12 hrs instead of 4-6 hrs like most other opioid meds. It can, unfortunately, be more easily abused than some & was thus the subject of some controversy a few yrs back, but I find it is an excellent medication for those w/ severe or long-term chronic pain.
