Haloperidol...: ...or Haldol is a "first-generation" or "typical" antipsychotic originally developed for schizophrenia, where patients have lost touch with reality, have hallucinations and/or delusions. It is also used for sedation in inpatient psychiatric settings if patients are violent or severely psychotic. It is used much less often than the newer "atypical" drugs although haloperidol is just as effective.
