A pulled gastrocnemius muscle is the most common injury. It happens when you are moving quickly and abruptly stop. At the time of stopping, it feels like someone kicked you in the calf. It takes about 6 weeks to heal and can be quite painful and a bruise forms in the muscle during that time. It requires icing, rest and gradual stretching, strengthening and gradual return to activity/sports.
