What happens to a stroke victim after they recover?

Stroke recovery: Some people recover completely from a stroke. Stroke is a leading cause of disability however. Some people have a limited recovery, and some people do not recover any of the function they lost. Common disabilities after stroke are impairments of speech, swallowing, vision, walking, strength and sensation. Recovery may take a year or longer to occur.

Very individualized: Hopefully, they regain full function w/ interdisciplinary care. Was it ischemic (lack of oxygen like heart attack) or hemmorhagic? What part of the brain? Cerebellum? Right hemisphere? Or left where 97% of patients have the speech center? Did the motor strip take a hit? Recovery takes time. You learn to work w/ deficits, head high. Success is a journey: Living the struggle is winning your life back.
