Efficient?: Unusual way to phrase it. Though most patients respond to OTC antihistamines, many don't, which would be a waste of money (thus inefficient). Likely more effective would be intranasal steroids (insurance covers these), though not for all symptoms. 20 yrs of hay fever? Four months of allergy injections very likely resolve the symptoms entirely. That's efficiency. Drug failure? An allergist can help
