Too many platelets: Myeloproliferative disorders are a set of marrow malignancies characterized by excessive production of certain types of blood cells. Essential thrombocytopenia is one of them, in which marrow makes too many platelets. There are well-tolerated oral agents which help. Other myelodysplastic syndromes are polycythemia vera and chronic myelogenous leukemia.
