A member asked:

What is a holosystolic murmur?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Holosystolic: A holosystolic murmur starts with the first heart sound and continues through the second heart sound. Typically these are caused by AV valve insufficiency or ventricular septal defects, they can also occur with aortopulmonary shunts. Arteriovenous fistulas have continuous murmurs associated but we call them bruits.
