Urine, swab, blood: At a minimum, urine or a vaginal swab test to check for gonorrhea and chlamydia, and a blood test for HIV and syphilis. In women, usually a vaginal and pelvic exam to also check for genital warts and vaginal infections like trichomonas, bacterial vaginosis, and yeast. Other tests may be recommended depending on symptoms and exposures, e.g. to check for herpes, hepatitis B, and others.
