The RAAS: The main one is the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, where renin converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II (AII) through angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). AII then increases aldosterone production, which ultimately increases blood pressure. ACE blocks that conversion, thereby reducing blood pressure. Bradykinin breakdown is also inhibited, resulting in a dry cough in some patients.
