Identification: A plus sign when referring to CD or cluster of differentiation are identifying markers on specific cells (like CD4) that help to differentiate between characteristics and functions performed by each cell. Examples would be CD4 which are "helper" cells and CD8 which are "suppressor". In essence it is the cells ID card. A negative sign denotes a cell doesn't display a certain CD marker.
