Severe inflammation: Anthrax causes severe inflammation of the affected organ. In terms of seriousness are infections of skin, GI tract and lung. Anthrax pneumonia has very high mortality.

Depends on type of: Anthrax infection. Cutaneous anthrax can form an ulcer with a dark eschar. GI can cause nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood & bloody diarrhea. Inhalational anthrax can cause shortness of breath, stridor, fever, and cyanosis
