Irregular ovulation: Many young women have irregular or skipped ovulation cycles which leads to irregular cycles. There are other cuases and of course if sexually active, check a pregnancy test as not all bleeding is your period.

Are menstrual cups safe?

Dr. Swati Avashia
Internal Medicine and Pediatrics 23 years experience
Should be: There is no evidence to the contrary. The most important thing about menstrual cups is that you use them as directed and you follow closely the recommendations for cleaning and storage. They can generally be worn up to 12 hours before emptying, cleaning, and re-inserting. So far, there are no reported cases of toxic shock syndrome. They are an environmentally responsible alternative to tampons.
A 30-year-old member asked:

Anyone know what is a menstrual cup?

Dr. Linda Gromko
Family Medicine 48 years experience
Catches flow...: A menstrual cup is a soft, flexible device that a woman inserts in the vagina to catch her menstrual flow. She empties, rinses, and replaces it as often as needed. It's sort of like a diaphragm in appearance. (please note that you wouldn't use a menstrual cup as a contraceptive; a woman must be fit for the proper diaphragm size, and use the diaphragm with a spermicide for it to be effective!).
